Manga Bible - maybe not what you expect
Monday, August 27th, 2007 by anikiIf someone told me there was a new book coming out of Japan called the “Manga Bible”, my first thought would probably be something akin to The Anime Enyclopaedia, but Tynedale Publishing’s Manga Bible is that other, more traditional kind of Bible.
The Christianity-based manga will begin with Manga Messiah by Kozumi Shinozawa and Atsuko Ogawa, with four further books planned over the next four years. The Manga Bible itself will be drawn by Hidenori Kumai, and is based on the New Living translation of the text.
Other contemporary manga featuring Christianity include Hellsing and Chrno Crusade, although Anime News Network notes that both “God of Manga” Osamu Tezuka and Gundam character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko both worked on more respectful Christianity-inspired stories.
