The PAL Production Company in Japan has confirmed that a live-action film based on Akiyuki Nosaka’s Grave of the Fireflies novella, the book that inspired Studio Ghibli’s 1988 anime film of the same name, will move ahead despite the death of the original director, Kazuo Hiroki.

Shooting is due to begin next month, with a summer 2008 release planned.

This is the second live-action adaptation of the 1967 book; a TV movie aired on Japanese TV in 2005.
