Spiderman to make Macross
Warner Bros and Maguire Productions (a production company owned by Spiderman star Tobey Maguire) have apparently gotten the rights to make a live-action film based on Robotech, an American recut of three separate anime series’ (including Super Dimension Fortress Macross) into a single show.
Maguire is quoted as saying, “We are very excited to bring Robotech to the big screen. […] There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film,” and he is apparently eyeing the lead role for himself. The screenplay will be written by Craig Zahler, with no director announced yet.
The Hollywood Reporter suggests that it’s the success of Dreamworks’ Transformers movie that has spurred Warner Bros. to create its own “giant robot” movie.
