Street Fighter movie v.2 gets director

I always hate reading reports in Variety, because they’re always full of movie-town marketing shorthand. Nevertheless, I persevere.

Variety is reporting that Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom have found a director for a new live-action version of Street Fighter in the form of Romeo Must Die and Doom helmsman Andrzej Bartkowiak.

The film will apparently be less of an ensemble this time around, with a plot focused around Chun Li, rather than a bizarre Belgian Guile’s attempts to lead the UN against Gomez Addams.

The script is by a bloke called Justin Marks, who has experience writing adaptations of existing franchises in three as-yet unreleased movies - Voltron, Super Max and He-Man.

The film will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
